Is it a sign of personal weakness or strength for a woman to admit that she has a problem with alcohol or drugs?
It is a sign of personal strength. Women who have alcohol or drug problems usually hide it, so for someone to admit that they have a problem takes courage. Although people who have such problems are weak in handling life situations, and turn to these substances in order to "take away the pain" or avoid dealing with the real life problems. For a woman to admit something means that they have realized that there was a problem to address, and in confessing it, means that the process to recovery is on the way. Usually the farther one is into the abuse of the substance; the harder it is for them to come to the realization that there is a problem. Some abusers simply don't acknowledge there is a problem. It is definitely a true strength for a woman to admit that she has a problem with alcohol or drugs.

Amen! I think that every person that I have come into contact with that has abused a substance and admitting it, was trying to change their life. They had realized that their lives were becoming out of control and that the substance had taken over. It is also a sign of courage because it is painful to see our own failures and imperfections.
Women who are mothers and who have jobs sometimes feel that they are bad mothers. Some women feel that society thinks that they are not capable of providing for the welfare of their child or children. There is substance abuse in all careers and all socioeconomic status. Some women will retire from jobs of 20 years or more with no signs of problems in family or job performance. They are well groomed,dressed and always on time for work. I know because, I have met a woman with a substance abuse problem and agree that a woman who admits she has a substance abuse problem, shows courage and tremendous strength.
I agree with you that it not easy for a person to realize and admit that they do have a problem. So once a woman admit that she have an adiction to alcohol or any other substance she is considered to be stronger. Because I believe that those who admits and realize that they do have a problem most of the time they are ready to reacive help.
