Do you believe that access to health care is a right or a privilege?

I believe access to health care is a right for basic humane reasons. Reasons like persons should have the right to visit the doctor if they become ill. I think there are should be degrees to the amount of health care a person should be given. For example some people are actually ill (i.e. a viral infection) and need care, while others the more privileged, if you will, consider plastic surgery health care. There are levels of care individuals may have, but basically all citizens deserve health care, and that is to see a doctor when necessary. With some surgery procedures, an evaluation is need for one to assess if it is a basic right or privilege. But yes, I do believe that access to health care is a right. People need to be cared for, and I think that it is up to the government to provide this care to all citizen with discretion to the procedures done. For the more privileged, there should be privileged health care, and for the average citizen there should be a doctor handy to care for their health. There are some medical procedures that require more attention, but for the average medical problem, programs should be implemented to reach all citizens. The question is who is that person that would tell that sick child that health care is a privilege.

Joyce I feel you and I agreed on the same reason why everyone should have health care available to them. No one should be denied to the right to have their health to the best of its ability. Everyone do not have the funds to have insurance, this should be a situation where something needs to be done so everyone can have that right. Many people who have insurance sometimes may still have to come out of their pockets for a dedutible, but I guess that is better than having to pay thousands of dollars.

I really agree with you on how all people have the right to see a doctor when necessary. I like how you distinguished what would actually be a valid reason for needing a doctor because I think some people truly abuse the system. I also agree that people who can afford better healthcare should have the right to seek it. I enjoyed reading your post!

I believe that healthcare should be available to everyone, even those that are priveledge enough to get cosmetic surgery and what not just as equally as one that is underpriveledge without any insurance. We seem to have a similar point of view but I have to disagree with the levels of healthcare access to different individuals. Everyone is equal even if the richest man needed a kidney transplant versus the most poor guy who can not afford an organ due to him not having adequate access to an insurance provider or being all the way down on the bottom of the donor list. So money should never interfere with an individuals health because after all its only imaginery paper currency which can be crumbled down to bits if the economy breaks. My point is health care is the right and along with this is to be priveledge to have this right.

Joyce,

I concur with all of your comments regarding access to healthcare. Basic healthcare is a right, while other 'not medically necessary' procedures such as plastic surgery is a privilege. All citizens deserve to receive healthcare; preventive healthcare such as well-check exams and basic healthcare when they become ill.
